Folded Wing founder and CEO Karen P has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Leeds Trinity University, for ‘outstanding achievements in media production, enterprise and ongoing exceptional support for Leeds Trinity.’
Karen studied Media and Business Management selecting the course because it offered work experience and allowed her to work during the summer holidays. During her time at the university, she gained a work placement at Virgin Records and later, at the BBC.
The honorary award for alumni celebrates outstanding achievement. Karen joins a community of 40 Honorary Fellows, including BAFTA-winning journalist Mobeen Azhar, broadcasters Richie Anderson (R2 Breakfast Show) Capital Radio’s Lauren Layfield and Yard Act bassist Ryan Needham. Karen had said this to say
"I’m massively proud to receive this honour and to show other people from different backgrounds, who think differently, that it’s possible to follow your dreams and to succeed on your own terms and in your own way. Thank you so much to Leeds Trinity for the support and for recognising this."
Leeds Trinity began awarding Honorary Fellowships in 2017 as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, to recognise excellence in a field associated with the work or values of the University. The ceremony will take place in Leeds Civic Hall on July 17th.
In 2022 Karen was awarded a Fellowship by the Radio Academy, their highest accolade.
