For the last three months, our six Student Radio Association (SRA) Selector students have been presenting their own version of The Selector on their respective university radio stations. They then each submitted their best show to be judged by members of our team, alongside the British Council, Goldierocks and Monki.
After much deliberation the winner of this year's scheme, as announced at the Student Radio Conference in Leicester, is Cassidy Baillie from BLAST at the University of West London.
A huge congratulations to Cassidy, who will be heading to Mexico to spend a week at The Selector's broadcast partner there, Ibero 90.9FM. This is a unique opportunity to broadcast on FM across a metropolis of 25 million people and also exchange experiences with young Mexican broadcasters.
Selector Programme Manager, Phil Catchpole, had this to say: "This year, our students have once again raised the bar with the standard of their shows. The brilliant training that they received at Folded Wing was evident in all of the submissions and picking a winner was as difficult as ever. Being able to utilise the unique kit version of the The Selector, which can be heard from Colombia to China, to help develop young aspiring broadcasters here in the UK is a tremendously rewarding experience for the whole team. We are very proud of all of our previous participants and excited to see how this years group progress into the industry."
We'd like to extend a huge thank you to all our participants this year - the standard this year was the best yet. We're expecting big things from all of you in the future (no pressure!)...
