Our latest documentary for BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra sees Toddla T celebrate five decades of Europe's biggest street party with the help of Norman Jay, Shy FX and Channel One Sound System.
As the carnival turns 50 he also explores the remarkable history behind the event, hearing first hand from people who saw it unfold.
10 years ago Toddla attended his first carnival, travelling down on the train from Sheffield with his record box. Since then he has never missed a year and now runs his own soundsystem featuring artists such as Sean Paul, Mike Skinner and Julio Bashmore. In the show Toddla explores the reasons it first captured his imagination and meets the DJs and artists that make it the biggest and best, year in, year out.
Finally, Toddla and production outfit Jus Now present the biggest modern carnival classics.
Also featuring Radio 1 DJ's Annie Mac, DJ Target and a true legend of carnival, David Rodigan.
Catch Notting Hill Carnival at 50 - Sunday 21st August on BBC Radio 1Xtra and on BBC Radio 1 on Tuesday 30th August at 9pm.
