Welcome to The Listening Post, where each week we get an insight into the radio listening habits of a guest contributor. Once each person has made their picks, we ask them to nominate someone for the following week's Listening Post...
Before the Christmas break, Capital East Midlands Drivetime presenter Tom Watts provided us with his listening highlights. They included Jon Holmes on Radio X and Elvis Duran on Z100. You can view his full selections here.
Tom has nominated his former student radio colleague Daisy Jarrett to provide our first Listening Post of 2016. Daisy was a part of Nottingham Trent University's Fly FM with Tom and is now an Assistant Producer at BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra.

1. Soulection Radio
"Soulection is more than radio. It’s a label with what’s basically a cult following, introducing me to some of my favourite artists of 2015, touring the world, playing gigs and now hosting a weekly show on Beats 1. It describes itself as ‘the sound of tomorrow,’ because of its huge focus on future sounds in the realms of RnB / Trap / Soul / Hip hop / beats and anything in between. I tend to listen back to Soulection shows when I’m having a chilled one, with a cuppa (or a glass of red wine if its post 4pm) and most importantly, when I have the time to sit back and enjoy it."
The First Lady of BBC Radio 1
2. Annie Nightingale: 50 Years In Music, BBC Radio 1/1Xtra Stories
"Two of my favourite things are radio documentaries and hearing my heroes talk about their careers. So you can imagine my joy when I heard this documentary about Annie Nightingale’s 50 years in the industry. She is truly a fascinating lady - telling captivating stories to Nick Grimshaw from the top of the BT Tower - ranging from her relationship with Kate Moss, to the birth of Acid House, right up to her continued enormous influence in the world of underground music today. It was fabulously produced, and gives a real insight in to the world of the first lady of BBC Radio 1."

Shouting "WOIIIII!!!!" at your radio
3. #SixtyMinutesLive - Kurupt FM Takeover - BBC Radio 1Xtra, MistaJam
"I was actually asked about my favourite radio show I’ve heard recently not so long ago, and I didn’t even hesitate with my answer. Mainly, because this show made me cry with laughter whilst also shouting “WOIIIII” at my radio. MistaJam’s SixtyMinutesLive is a weekly feature, but this one was particularly special. If you don’t know Kurupt FM, they originate from BBC Three mockumentary ‘People Just Do Nothing’, a show about a group of London Garage MCs and DJs that broadcast on a pirate radio station. Not only are Kurupt FM crew HILARIOUS (and actually pretty sick DJs/MCs) but throughout the show they bring out more of their ‘mates’ - including guest appearances from Big Narstie, Stormzy, MC Vapour, Shola Ama, MC DT, Scott Garcia and Craig David. All as a surprise. I nearly passed out. Keep an eye out for Big Narstie’s reaction to Craig David, which resulted in their most recent collaboration ‘When The Baseline Drops'".
Female Empowerment!
4. Lena Dunham’s ‘Women Of The Hour’
"Lena Dunham hosts this lovely little podcast mini-series, each time with a topic and a group of amazing females, basically just chatting their way through life. They address lots of important issues, in the typical Lena-style fashion (which pretty much involves witty, often painfully awkward and very funny chit chat). I especially enjoyed this episode – but I definitely recommend them all to fans of ‘Girls’ and anyone looking for a bit of female empowerment."

Grime Throwback
5. Plastician w/ Skepta - 10 Year Throwback, Rinse FM
"I’m a sucker for anything that sounds like it could have been recorded/produced in a homemade studio in a dingy little basement or bedroom – so as a grime fan, I was fully excited when Plastician did a throwback to a show Skepta did with him on Rinse FM 10 years ago. The show was first broadcast in January 2006 and still sounds huge. Considering Skepta’s major success recently, it’s amazing to hear him doing his thing back in the day and on one of my favourite radio stations as well - it’s huge."
Next Week's Listening Post:
"I’d like to nominate the lovely Katie Boden – she works at BBC Radio London and produces a wide array of shows on the brilliant Soho Radio, so it’ll be great to gain an insight in to what she’s been listening to recently".
Check back next Friday for Katie's selections...
