Welcome to The Listening Post, where each week we get an insight into the radio listening habits of a guest contributor. Once each person has made their picks, we ask them to nominate someone for the following week's Listening Post...
Last week, the Listening Post came back to the nest, with members of the team here at Folded Wing selecting their recent listening highlights. These included Scroobius Pip's Distraction Pieces and The Adventures of Zoe Nightingale. You can view our full selections here.
For this week's Listening Post we've nominated the lovely Ruth Barnes. Ruth presents the brilliant The Other Woman on Amazing Radio - the UK's only all female new music playlist. She has also fronted a number of documentaries for networks including BBC Radio 4. You can find out more about Ruth's work here.
Check out her selections below...

1. Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone - BBC Radio 6 Music
"I love this show - especially as the genius Let’s Eat Grandma were recent session guests, two teenagers from Norfolk who take psych to another level. However, I do think it’s a shame that it’s called The Freak Zone - in this era where specialist radio is becoming ever more rare it’s a pity that the great selection of music Stuart plays every week is put in the ‘freak’ box. I could listen to this kind of music radio 24/7!"

The Female Boss...
2. Vanessa Feltz - BBC London 94.9
"I am such a fan girl of Vanessa Feltz. She’s super bright, a brilliant speaker and doesn’t take any bull cr*p from nobody. I also like how she’s her own boss, she's got no agent or manager - if you want Vanessa, you gotta negotiate with the lady herself! All that aside, her BBC London show is a great listen. She doesn’t let some of the more right wing callers get away with anything. She’s been sitting in for Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2 recently and with a big production team behind her she absolutely flies. Such a great broadcaster."

Hotter Than Hot
3. Julia Holter - NTS Live
"NTS goes from strength to strength as a network and always manages to reel in some lovely names to present shows. They recently roped in hotter-than-hot-right-now Julia Holter who played a glorious selection from Josephine Foster to Nite Jewel to Billie Holliday. NTS is just so cool, based in Dalston you’d think it would be pretty up itself but when you listen you hear a wide range of voices presenting some fantastic new music and gems from various label archives. There are some good chat shows too."

Learn Something About The World...
4. The Guardian Audio
"With special mention to the Science and Tech podcasts, there’s always a good listen from The Guardian’s podcasting team. When Radio 4 switches to drama in the afternoon and phone-in radio is doing my head in I’ll pop one of these on and LEARN something about the world."

Laugh, cry and pull over the car...
5. NPR - This American Life
"Yes it’s a cliche to site TAL as a favourite these days but honestly it IS the best listen of this kind. Stories that make you laugh, cry and pull the car over to hear the end - they have it all. I’m also a big fan of the podcasts Slate Magazine put out, especially the DoubleX Gabfest - the three engaging journalists tackle all sorts of topics with a feminist agenda, from armpit hair to reproductive rights, which is right up my street."

Next Week's Listening Post
Ruth: "I'd like to nominate The Guardian's Head Of Audio Jason Phipps to do next week's Listening Post - I look forward to listening to his selections."
Check back next Friday for Jason's selections...
