Welcome to The Listening Post, where each week we get an insight into the radio listening habits of a guest contributor. Once each person has made their picks, we ask them to nominate someone for the following week's Listening Post...
Last week, after being nominated by Anton Spice from The Vinyl Factory, Thomas Theodore from music discovery service 22tracks.com, selected shows on Colourful, NTS, and Dublab. You can view his full selections here.
For this week's Listening Post selection, Thomas has nominated Nick Taylor, Broadcast Assistant at BBC Radio 3. Nick is also a Freelance Radio Producer who has produced two documentaries for us here at Folded Wing; 'Gone Too Soon: The Story of Eazy-E' (BBC Radio 1Xtra Stories) and 'When Words Collide' (BBC Radio 1Xtra Stories), so he's an old friend!
Check out his choices below...

1. Sonic Journeys, BBC Radio 3
"Words and Music is one of the most unique shows you'll ever hear, especially on national radio. Essentially a spoken word mixtape, the programme beautifully weaves readings of poetry and texts performed by established actors, with a wide range of music from classical to electronic, all centered around a chosen theme. 'On the Road' for example mixed readings of Jack Kerouac and Robert Frost with pieces by Schumann, Kraftwork and Van Morrison. It's the sort of radio you can just get lost in, and I absolutely love it".

2. Alien Jams - NTS Radio
"Part of the amazing 'Radiotopia' collective in the States (pretty much everything there is worth a listen), Fugitive Waves is a series of podcasts from the award-winning Kitchen Sisters, and over 15-30 minutes they create mini masterpieces of audio storytelling, melding archive interviews, music and found sounds. There's a whole load of great stuff from them to listen to, but my favourite of theirs is the fascinating array of music documentaries, with episodes giving a unique take on the likes of Patti Smith, Edith Piaff, and legendary Memphis producer Sam Philips who it turns out funded the recordings of people like Howlin' Wolf, B.B. King and Johnny Cash by recording anything, even funerals".
Future Radio
3. KNOW WAVE
"I've been really getting in to New York-based station KNOW WAVE recently. It's kind of like NTS but utterly anarchic, with only semi-regular shows and a schedule that's announced fairly last minute on the station's Instagram. Of the shows that seem to be on fairly regularly, the two I've been enjoying the most are the Onyx Collective, a mad jazz show presented by Issaih Barr from Rat King, and NoInstagram which is a predominantly hip-hop based show that broadcasts out of London".
The Tastemakers
3. All Songs Considered - NPR
"NPR has a great line-up of music podcasts on offer (Tiny Desk Concerts and Microphone Check I'd also recommend), but All Songs Considered is the anchor. A solid selection of excellent tunes every week, the show has a nice mix of big new releases with slightly more obscure indie, electronica, hip-hop, R&B, not to mention smaller American folk acts that perhaps don't get much exposure over here. This week they got Kate Tempest in to pick the tunes, which is well worth a listen, but there's a whole bunch of regular episodes here as well".

Next Week on The Listening Post
Nick: "I nominate Jim Farthing who works in BBC comedy, and he presents an awesome dance, bass and hip-hop show on Wandsworth Radio. He's also recently started his own hat company called EDIT Hats. I'm hoping all of these things will feed in to his choices in some way.
Check back next Friday for Jim's selections...
