As the end of year approaches, the music industry is beginning to look ahead to who's going to be big in 2015, and with the BBC announcing it's 'Sound of 2015' list this week, we thought we'd put together our own predictions...
Read moreLaunched in 2003, the 'BBC Music Sound of...' aims to showcase the best and brightest rising stars. Past winners of the accolade include the likes of Adele, Ellie Goulding, Haim, Jessie J and Sam Smith, who have all gone on to achieve massive worldwide success.
The list is democratically compiled by a hand-picked panel of impartial experts from the music industry who are 'genuine and passionate music fans' and this year we're delighted that the host of our 'New UK Music' show The Selector for The British Council, Sam Hall, aka Goldierocks was a part of the judging process.
The BBC's list includes a number of artists Sam has played on the show including Rae Morris, George The Poet and Kwabs.
You can find out more about The Selector and listen to the show here
So for this week's blog we've decided to make our own predictions for who we think could be big in 2015, here are our selections...
Jim's Choice:
Joel Harrison
"Monki played Joel's 'Interlocked' on her show on BBC Radio 1 earlier this year. He's a really interesting new electronic producer, originally from the Midlands and now based in East London. Check Joel's latest remix of The Energy's 'Breathe' on his SoundCloud page and 'Interlocked' too... killer stuff!"
Lucy's Choice:
Seinabo Sey
"I'm absolutely obsessed with this lady at the moment - Seinabo Sey. Yet another contender to the Swedish pop throne, she's just released the massive 'Pistols At Dawn', the follow up to the amazing track 'Younger', which came out earlier in the year. I saw her play a tiny show in Stoke Newington a few weeks ago and she was incredible - I think 2015 will see her play to MUCH bigger crowds. Fans of Eglo Records might be interested to know that she's also the sister of the equally brilliant Fatima!"
Pete's Choice:
Boxed In
"My ‘One To Watch’ for next year is Boxed In. It’s basically the alias of Oli Bayston, he used to be in a band called Keith and then he worked as an assistant to Dan Carey who's records I love! He’s been doing Boxed In for a couple of years but his debut album is out at the end of January, I’ve heard it and it is AMAZING! Dan Carey actually produced it too, so defo gonna be a good one, i’m so excited about it and this track in particular is wicked, always has my head bopping along."
Matt's Choice:
All We Are
"I spent four years living in Liverpool and it's so very true what they say about the music scene there (a lot of the key players in that current scene actually feature in the video below) - it's still very much thriving with a brilliant array of talent and All We Are are the prime example of that. I first saw them around three years ago whilst at University and whilst they excited me then, when I saw them last year they'd really blossomed into something really standout. Drowsy, shoegazy melodies that they describe as sounding like 'the Bee Gees on diazepam', I predict acclaim when their self-titled debut album comes out on Domino on 5th January."
Sandie's Choice:
Andreya Triana
"Andreya Triana is a wonderful singer/songwriter from London who has a voice to die for. She's been around a while now but has a new album coming out next year and I hope she gets even more praise as a result of it! I've seen her live and she's just amazing - go see her if you get the chance to!"
Karen's Choice:
Alice Zawadzki
"Her debut album 'China Lane' just blew me away and I can't wait to see how she grows in 2015."
