“I can’t believe it’s Carnival weekend again already! I think my favourite Carnival moment would have to be the Co-Op sound system from about 7-8 years ago… Daz I Que and the crew rocking it with ‘Hold It Down’ and all the big Co-Op classics. They sounded so good in the sunshine!”

“Toots and The Maytals are the epitome of Carnival for me. Love this track!”

“We made a special Carnival themed show for RBMA Radio last year with Toddla T. He walked around the site and picked loads of great tunes inspired by the weekend, but my favourite was Toddla’s own track ‘Rice & Peas’ feat. Mr Versatile. It was stuck in my head for days afterwards, super super catchy!”

“So many great memories! Carnival is always my favourite weekend of the year. I’ve only missed one in the last 20 years, and that was a couple of years ago when my son was born. A special moment from recent years was the Carnival after the London riots in 2011. A lot of people were worried it might kick off… but as we arrived at Aba Shanti early on in the day, all you could hear coming thru the speakers was Bob Marley singing “We don’t neeed… No More Trouble”. It was the perfect tune for the moment.”

“I think my strongest Carnival memory is being very drunk in West London somewhere, having drunk far too much Red Stripe and hearing DJ Zinc’s ‘Super Sharp Shooter’ very loud! Now that is a big Carnival tune.”

“Joker at Notting Hill Carnival 2010.... we recorded his set for RBMA Radio and I really wanted to convey the heavy bass in the recording.... unlikely unless you have a 10ft sub sitting in your living room - a job for the bass jacket maybe?! I had my laptop set up on top of a sub at the back of the venue - I had to tape the USB and firewire connectors to the computer to stop them from vibrating out of their sockets.”

“I don’t go to the Notting Hill one but I always used to take Karen to the Southend Carnival every year, when she was little. It used to be during the day, with a night procession the following week, but now they just have the night one, which was last weekend. Brings back wonderful memories.”
