While most UK nightclubs aren't really geared up to the heatwave we're experiencing across the country right now, summer is still undoubtedly the most appealing time of year to get your Friday best on and tear up the dancefloor into the small hours, no matter how sweaty you get. And there are few people who can get a crowd making shapes like legendary London party collective Horse Meat Disco.
Read moreThe Horse Meat Disco boys were on the Lights On Mix for Monki on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra last weekend and we would urge you to catch the mix while you still can. It's the perfect soundtrack to some pre-disco preparation before your weekend revelling - click HERE to listen. In honour of the mix, the Folded Wing team have all picked our favourite disco tunes - we'll be spinning these super loud this sunny evening. We'd love to hear your favourites too - get in touch on Twitter @FoldedWingUK.
Karen
Sylvester - 'Over And Over'
"I absolutely love this! It starts with screaming and just builds and builds from there. It doesn't matter where I am when I hear it, I just have to start dancing. It was written by legendary husband and wife songwriters Ashford & Simpson who penned hits for the likes of Diana Ross and Chaka Khan. The two vocalists from Sylvester went on to become The Weather Girls!
For added disco, this clip has some great footage from the Paradise Garage."

Boney M - 'Daddy Cool'
"This single was released in May 1976...they don't make them like that any more, or dress like that! I used to have this on repeat on my record player - it must have influenced Karen when she was a baby. It must have affected the poor neighbours too!"
Jim
Detroit Emeralds - 'Feel The Need In Me'
"Two Sundays ago, on the last day of this year's Meltdown festival, they had DJs playing all day out in the sunshine in front of the Royal Festival Hall. Jim Stanton from Horse Meat played the set of the day, full of feelgood disco anthems. This one sounded particularly good in the beautiful London sunshine. It felt like summer had arrived."
Andrea
ABBA - 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)'
"My mum's Swedish so I have to get my Svensk hat on and go with ABBA. They made many a disco hit but I particularly like this one - for the bassline and for their brilliant Swedish accents when they sing "half past 12"..."
Lucy
Donna Summer - 'I Feel Love'
"For me there's no-one more disco than Donna. Her breakthrough hit with Giorgio Moroder, this is slick, futuristic, polished - the audio equivalent of a mirrorball."
Micky
Quadrasound Audio Disco
"I guess most people my age were educated on disco from our parents' record collections...back when people actually had record collections and not just Spotify playlists. My Dad's collection was particularly special because he used to DJ out with an outfit called Quadrasound Audio Disco, or something like that. I found an old tape of one of his discos from 1978, restored it and put it here."
Pete
Earth Wind & Fire
"Never mind favourite disco tunes, this is one of my favourite tunes of all time! I spent many drunken nights at uni dancing and singing (in a terrible falsetto) along to this."
