Folded Wing's very own Lights On tracks

As part of her show on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra (Sunday into Monday, 2-4am), each week Monki hands over the reins to the hottest up and coming producers and DJs for a guest mix. Not just any old mix though, the Lights On Mix is a showcase of the sort of things they’d spin to keep a crowd dancing at the very end of the night, when the lights are coming on but no-one wants to leave.

Following the likes of Riton and Addison Groove, the producer most recently in the hot seat was UK garage legend Wookie, with a brilliant mix of tunes from the likes of Crystal Waters and Roy Davis Jnr. You can listen to the Lights On archive here. The Folded Wing team have all picked a track that we'd play in our very own Lights On Mixes – you can find our choices below. We’d love to hear from you too – let us know your favourite end of night tunes on Twitter @FoldedWingUK.

Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes – ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’

“No-one can resist a bit of soul at the end of the night, whatever the DJ’s been playing before, and this is such a classic, all sweeping strings, crooning vocals and a proper hands-in-the-air chorus. When I went to the brilliant Beacons festival in Yorkshire last summer, one of the DJs on the Saturday night closed his set with this, and the whole tent went absolutely nuts – great memories!”

Janet Kay - 'Silly Games'

"Don't do it much any more, but I used to regularly DJ reggae sets - a mixture of new and old stuff. So, the classic end of the night track for me is always Janet Kay's 'Silly Games'. Lovely song, which builds and builds to a ridiculously high chorus. And I've got the 12-inch vinyl version which goes on for ages so you can pack your stuff away while everyone's finding their coats and bags and getting thrown out."

Chaka Demus & Pliers - 'Murder She Wrote'

"My ideal night would end on this song and then I'd get through the hangover the next day watching the TV programme. I'm a massive fan of both but what would make it even better would be a cameo by Jessica Fletcher in the music video..."

The Stone Roses – ‘I Am The Resurrection’

"Not a track you would probably associate too much with clubbing, but when I first started going out in Manchester we would always go to 5th Avenue. It's a pretty grotty indie club but I always loved going there and quite often when the lights came up they would play this, I hated leaving without hearing the break down of the track at about halfway through until the end! Brings back memories of horrible beer and wandering around Manchester until we could get the train home at 6am…."

Love Unlimited Orchestra - 'Love's Theme'

"I've been known to DJ occasionally and when it's been a good night, it's always nice to finish with this one. Uplifting, emotional music from the king of strings: Barry White. And check the live performance by the orchestra below.... all about the French Horns!"
